IS EPOXY SAFE?
First off, what even is an epoxy floor coating? Are epoxy floor coatings safe for me, my family, my employees, my animals, or my customers? An epoxy coating is made up of resin and hardeners that chemically react on your concretes surface, this reaction is what leads this liquid to be turned into a solid, and how it cures to your concrete floors. Once an epoxy floor has been installed, your surface becomes abrasion, chemical, and impact-resistant. Even after all of the steps and important processes that must take place for proper installation, epoxy floors are still safe. Most epoxy floors that are on the market for professionals to use contain very little to no VOC levels (volatile organic compounds). But just like a regular can of paint from any local store, it is not advised to solely breathe in the odor an epoxy floor gives off, especially during installation.
Before epoxy floors are installed, it will always be advised to clear the area of children, pets, and plants because even though the chemicals are not hazardous, they should not be ingested. Wherever you have your epoxy floors being installed, be sure to allow your epoxy floor coating to properly cure with your concrete floor. During the first 48 hours, it is important to ventilate the area properly, this will lower the amount of odor and fumes in any given area. Once the epoxy floor has finished completely installing, it is safe for children, animals, guests, and family to begin using the floor.
Epoxy floors are designed to withstand heavy use and to offer many benefits, such as strength, beauty, and longevity. With an affordable price tag to accompany its installation and lifespan, epoxy floors have become the hottest trend for interior design. Not only are they safe for any area, but they are also highly durable for whatever you may expose them too.
